Miista Shoe Care

Your Miista’s are handcrafted by artisans and maintaining your Miista’s regularly will help give your shoes a longer life. Please take a moment and read through our care recommendations.

We work with a variety of leathers and it is normal that over time softer leathers may become dry and lose some of their natural finish. If your pair is made from Calf Leather we recommend that you regularly apply a thin layer of nourishing cream and buff lightly with a soft cloth.

For Crinkled, Florentique or Metallic leathers avoid applying any creams or chemicals and only use a soft damp cloth to wipe clean. To revive the shine, try rubbing the upper with a dry cloth.

To restore the shine of a Patent leather, try rubbing the shoe with a soft dry cloth until the shine is restored. Patent leather polishes require specific application, please strictly follow the product instructions.

Suedes and Nubucks can be protected prior to wear with a water repellent protector. Should the suede become dirty, wipe clean with a damp cloth and allow to dry. Once dry, brush with the grain to restore the fibres. There are a variety of shoe care products that can be purchased to treat leathers and suedes. If in doubt take the shoes with you when searching for a shoe care product and ask for advice for which is most suitable.

Some Miista’s are crafted with textile uppers. For pairs woven from natural Raffia, we strongly advise to not get your shoes wet as they are highly water-absorbent. If dirty, gently brush clean with a soft cloth. For most other textiles should your pair become marked or dirty from outdoor use, wipe lightly with a damp cloth. If wet, dry with a clean cloth and let them dry in a natural/warm environment.

A soft short haired brush is great for brushing dirt from Corduroy or Embroidered styles, try not to use a strong detergent as this may alter the colour.

To remove any stains from Satin, Silks or Velvets try by dabbing the area with warm water and a damp cloth.

If your leather soles get wet, please allow them to dry naturally in a breathable/warm environment.

Most of our Miista’s are crafted with leather soles. It is advised to have soles applied at your local shoe maker/repair shop after 8-10 wears, if your shoes don’t come with a rubber or synthetic sole. Having your pair re-soled will protect your original sole, waterproof it, and make it non-skid.

For a synthetic sole or heel caps, check that you do not wear it down to the leather upper. Should the sole become worn from intense use, you can get this re-soled at a local cobbler as normal.
