Miista Sustainability Film: The Bottle Caps Effect
It is climate week in New York and last night we launched our new bottle cap heel, which is created using 50% recycled plastic. Our makers in Spain and our founder Laura have developed this piece, which is a knowingly ironic but a beautifully crafted heel.
The inspiration came from stepping on a plastic bottle in the street and thinking about the implications that waste has on the environment. Our bottle cap heel on the mule acts as a message and to our customers, to consider plastic waste and human consumption in our current climate. This is something we are so excited to launch, and we hope it will have a lasting and positive impact.
The heel was launched alongside our new sustainability film which shows the process of how the bottle cap shoes are created. The focus of the film was our craftspeople, who craft each shoe with their bare hands. We wanted to pay homage to a highly skilled community of people who have been upholding Cordwainer traditions since the 19th Century.
We hope by watching the film you can see the skill behind the creation of each individual shoe and their quality- something that is to be worn, loved and made to last.
